In today's world, being able to efficiently type, format, and present a document is a very valuable skill. No matter what field you may be entering, the chances of having to properly type an attractive document are very high. Microsoft Word, a very well-known word-processing computer software program, is an extremely valuable system to know how to use. Within Word, there are many valuable tools that although you to construct a professional looking document, such as the ability to change fonts, text size, alignment, margin size, spacing style, incorporate bullets and numbering, and much, much more. After exploring some of the tools that were unfamiliar to me, I have learned how to properly use the Find and Replace tool, the thesaurus, how to wrap text around a picture, apply a column style format, and other valuable resources that were a mystery to me before. By watching online tutorials, I was able to further enhance my Microsoft Word knowledge, and I am able to produce fantastically designed documents. Below are some examples of my work:

As Secretary of my theatre company, being able to arrange information in a table or graph is a necessary skill to have. Through Microsoft Excel, one is able to assemble a multitude of information in an attractive display. Not only does Excel allow you to create graphs, but you have the ability to calculate numbers by using the AutoSum option. This tool, among others, is extremely helpful when presenting statistics, averages, and many more options such as arranging the data in alphabetical order, so that it is easy to read and easy to understand. The extensive formatting options permit a wide variety of ways to organize your information. Below are some examples of my work through Microsoft Excel:

Microsoft Access, a database program, is extremely helpful when implementing a large amount of numbers that may need to updated, categorized, or extracted for use. Through queries, one is able to locate and specify data down to the very last detail, and group it together with other data of it's kind. By selecting field size and data type, Access allows you to itemize the records in an exact order. Having just been famliarized with the program, I'm realizing what an excellent tool it is. Access could be utilized in business, for events, and for records in both professional and personal looking documents. Following are a couple of examples of the work I've done in Microsoft Access:

Microsoft PowerPoint vs. Google Presentations

Picture
When constructing a presentation whether to promote a product, teach a class, or display your knowledge on a subject, one of the easiest ways to do so is by using a computer. Microsoft PowerPoint and Google Presentations are two user-friendly programs that allow you to create attractive and proffesional slide shows that give a lot of information to the viewer. There are some differences and similarities between the two programs, though, that a user should consider before choosing which option is best for their needs.

If one is searching for extensive formatting options and the ability to enhance their presentation by using animations and other effects, Microsoft Powerpoint is probably the best program for them. In PowerPoint, there are about twenty four layout choices for each slide, making it easier to make your presentation the best it can be. As for fonts, colors, and effects, there are endless things to pick from to further heighten the appeal of the material you're discussing. PowerPoint though, is not free, and can only be presented on the computer it was created on.

In contrast, Google Presentations allows you to access a powerpoint you've made from any computer at hand that has the internet, and on top of that, also allows you to upload and download presentations. If you are working on a presentation with one or more people, Google allows you to share the presentation with those other people, which gives them the ability to either view the document, or edit it. With this option, utilizing Google Presentations in a classroom environment is a very useful tool. Unfortunately, Google Presentations does not allow as many formatting options as Microsoft PowerPoint, but still has a wide variety of options to make your presentation as attractive as possible.

Although they have their differences, both of these options for creating a presentation are fabulous tools that should give you the best results. Below are examples of construction during Microsoft PowerPoint and during Google Presentations.

Picasa

Picasa, an application by Google, is a photo editing program that is an awesome tool for altering and enhancing your photographs. In Picasa, there are a multitude of options for modifying pictures that include the basics, such as cropping, removing red-eye, retouching, straightening, and pixel refocus. On top of that, there are also fun editing effects that can be applied to your photo, like black and white, sepia, color focus, brightness, and other awesome altering tools. Picasa is user friendly, free and wonderful for organizing photos and creating albums. Whether you're just messing around with your pictures, or you're using an effect for emphasis, Picasa is bound to have what you're looking for. Here are a few pictures that I have altered through Picasa:

Writing

Picture
From the time I was a little girl, I have been attracted to fabricating stories and putting them on paper to share. Now, I am not only interested in creative writing, but persuasive and analytical papers. Having been in Essay and Analysis this past semester, I have had much practice with analyzing symbols and concepts that lie beyond the text of a novel, and what point the author may have been trying to make with the imagery and symbols he or she used. Poetry too, is a major point of interest for me. Being able to communicate your feelings in a creative and artistic way is important to me. Next year I plan to take AP English as a junior and hopefully increase my writing skills even further. Below are a few examples of essays, and other writings I've constructed.
